Which Washing Powder? Clothes in humid climate.

When we first moved to Kuala Lumpur, we encountered a lot of issues with our washing machine.
The water often over-flowed and our clothes seemed to have soapy residue on them. The technician who came to look at the machine advised us that we were using the wrong washing powder.
So that you do not make the same mistake, always go for Persil washing powder. It may be more expensive than some of the other brands but it is made to wash with low suds and therefore, best suited for your washing machine!
The other two brands I tried: Daia and Fab are terrible for the washing machine and I guess are best for hand washing only.

Softners: we like Soflan.

You may find that because of the humidity some of your clothes do not dry properly and leave a musty, mouldy smell. To counter this use a rinse in your washing machine like the one by Dettol.
We also tumble dry our towels and bed linen as this really helps get them completely dry.

Some great tips via the link below on preventing mould attacking your leather bags in humid climate:

Please share any of your discoveries on detergents, mould-prevention etc in KL. Thank you!

Ode to 100 plus!

I have really fallen in love with the soft drink 100 plus and I missed it severely whilst on holiday abroad. This isotonic soft drink by F&N in Malaysia is so so so good when you are feeling dehydrated and it has often rescued me during illness. The best natural alternative would be fresh coconut juice. I wish they would export this stuff around the world. More people need to taste it's goodness.
Having said that when I first came across it I was put of by the ingredients label. Words like: " permitted food conditioner", "additives", "synthetic origin" did not appeal to me. I can't even remember how it happened that I did end up trying a sip. Now I stock bottles of the original flavour in my fridge. There are several flavours but I do prefer the original. I am interested to hear other people's verdict on this drink. Post a comment or drop me an email.
